Our group of five celebrated a birthday dinner last Sunday evening. It is the only restaurant venue on a tall ship today in the world. It is incredible to look out on the deck and to see the shoreline in the near distance. Delectable meets affordable every winter and fall when Center City District Restaurant Week delights diners with meal deals at many of Philadelphia’s top eateries. The sense of proximity with the water is difficult to overstate and sets Moshulu apart as a restaurant that can truly transport diners at a moment’s notice. Moshulu is a beautiful Philly landmark that is perfect for any occasion.

All of which add a distinct sense of adventure and timelessness to an evening out that can’t be duplicated anywhere else in the city. The Experience. Located on a docked ship, the Moshulu is a philadelphia staple. We'd been looking forward to it, and had heard mixed reviews.

Now, a restaurant group has jumped on the trend. Aside from the mold this is a docked ship.

Imagine what it was like sitting at a table where one of you is leaning forward the whole time and the other is trying to keep himself from falling backward into the table behind him. Instead of camping out, it’s recommended that you arrive early for sunset drinks on the deck before meandering through the ship to appreciate its historic journey to Penn’s Landing. Each miniature patty packed a punch of lusciously prepared burger and high quality ingredients that coaxed every ounce of flavor from the dish. I also thought it was great that you can dine or hold special occasions on the deck, which would truly be a unique experience and one that I will consider for my upcoming wedding. Despite its name, Restaurant Week has expanded over the years to cover nearly two full weeks, giving patrons plenty of time to try new spots and return to old favorites.

Fearless Restaurants is kicking off spring by offering Restaurant Week at its dining establishments – including White Dog Cafe and the Moshulu – from Monday, March 23, through Sunday, March 29. The flavor profile went beyond mere salad to the deliciously sweet aspect of duck meat that permeated every inch of the dish. Parking is available adjacent to the Moshulu for $20 per vehicle. We were no different, but we had to restrain ourselves in order to slow down and savor the deliciously tender meat. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. It also has a large raw bar selection.

The ambience and the presentation of the food was excellent. We ordered a decadent slice of chocolate cake and its ganache filling was absolutely stellar.

Moshulu has enjoyed over 100 years on the open water as a testament to nautical fortitude and grace. Even a routine trip to the restroom was filled with wondrous exploration as the stairs leading to the deck were awash in history. I savored every bite and was particularly impressed by the addition of wild mushrooms to the unusually complex Kobe.

It can seat up to 20 people and anyone can reserve it. The singer from the jazz band that was there that night had to hold on to a railing to get to the stage. My experience at Moshulu was an unforgettable combination of alluring history and timeless elegance.

The fall 2020 edition of the event takes place September 13-25, 2020 at more than 75 restaurants. For 2020, Restaurant Week comes with an exciting twist: Diners can enjoy the meals at home or at the participating restaurants. Participants for the fall 2020 edition of Center City District Restaurant Week include Amada, Barbuzzo, Fork, Moshulu, Red Owl Tavern, SOUTH Kitchen & Jazz Club and Tequilas Restaurant, among many others. The Moshulu – Docked at the Delaware River waterfront, the historic ship offers stunning views with your meal. Service was extremely slow, so if your on a time schedule not the place for you.

Regardless, everyone had a great time and it was an evening such as this that won over the entire family and we look forward to many more dining experiences at The Moshulu. Under Chef Fernandez's direction, the Moshulu has thrived as a culinary hot spot just waiting for you to enjoy what happens when you add water to top notch talent. The restaurants, filled with dog-themed decor, are known for farm-to-table fare.

Located at 401 S Columbus Blvd, Moshulu is the world’s oldest and largest boat that is still afloat. Taste of food and presentation were gourmet level. This place is very old and in need of major remodeling.

Diners have the opportunity to enjoy creative meals and, for an evening, be transported back to a time when quality was the rule rather than the exception. My father was particularly interested in the history of the ship and the General Manager was kind enough to not only give us the ship's background but also gave us the grand tour.
